Must Love Dogs

I plan to go see the movie Must Love Dogs, starring John Cusack and Diane Lane. I could watch John Cusack reading a phonebook because there is something about him that I find so likable. The movie is based on a novel by Claire Cook. Everytime a novel is made into a movie my imagination goes into overdrive thinking about if a novel I wrote was made into a motion picture. Guess I better get going finishing Pisces Rising because one thing I know for sure is half a novel can't be published, made into a movie or anything else.

All Quiet on the Writing Front

I haven't written anything since Sunday. UGH! It's not that I am blocked but I have been busy and haven't sat down and tried to write in the last few days. My mood flys when I am writing scenes I enjoy but crashes when I'm not producing new work.
Last night I watched Sean Haye's new show Sitution Comedy on Bravo. I thought about what it would be like if I was the one who wrote the script that won. Although I would not want to be on a reality show, too up close and personal for me, I would love to have all those people telling me my writing is funny and interesting and worth being showed to millons of people.

Making Progress

I wrote six more pages today. It thrills me to be making steady progress like this. But I do have some work to do pulling all the threads together since I am writing out of order. I have over one hundred pages now.
Song Lyrics of the Day-

She
May be the beauty
or the beast.
May be the famine
or the feast.
May turn each day
into a heaven or a hell.
She may be the mirror
of my dreams.
A smile reflected
in a stream
She may not be what
she may seem
Inside her shell
( from the notting hill soundtrack)

The Writing Cure

When I am creating I feel like all is right in my world. It starves off depression in me. It makes me feel useful, content and that I am fulfilling my destiny. I can't believe now I took a 3 year break from this when it is what I love, know and need.

Lyrics of the day-
He told her
"Someday I'll get my life straight."
She said
"It's too late. What's done is done."
He said
"Someday..."
She said
"I can't wait,
cause sometimes someday
just never comes."

So many characters

So many characters are in my mind right now. Today two more spoke up and I had to stop and write a scene for them before I could go grocery shopping. This new herione is a Chick lit girl but not at all like J.S. , the initials of my heroine from Pisces Rising. The only thing I know about the new heroine, she is still unnamed, is she is a control freak workaholic type. I have no clue when or if I may write her story. I still have Allie and Spencer from Come Back to Me
on hold, and Natalia and Jackson are still vivid in my mind from novel I would like to write about them. Plus I am firmly focused on Pisces Rising for the forseeable future. So unnamed heroine is at the bottom of the list unless she starts screaming for attention.

Bizarre musings from a overmedicated head

Yuck! I have been sick since last Sunday. I have only written a few pages this week. It's frustrated me to be away from my novel. I feel like a nervous girlfriend who hasn't seen her guy in a week thinking " Are we growing apart?" "Will it be as good as it was when we are back together?" I have come up with some ideas for a sequel to Pisces Rising. The main reason is I want to write more about her relationship with her family but that is not a huge part of Pisces Rising. We will see if I can get PR done though before I really put much more thought into another book about this heroine.
I am now reading a book called Immediate Fiction.
I am also reading a Red Dress Ink novel called Tales of a Drama Queen- by Lee Nichols. It's the funniest chick lit book I have read in a while.

Long Enough?

I wrote more pages today but I am starting to fear getting this story to reach 100,000 words. There are still plenty of details I need to add to every scene written. I haven't did much in the description department showing what everyone is wearing or what the room looks like. And I know it can expand some in the second draft.

The Broke Diaries

Here is a link to The Broke Diaries- http://www.thebrokediaries.com/bookgrits.html

Pisces Rising is not set up like a diary but I hope it is just as funny as that book. That all hinges on if anyone else gets my humor. But I compare PR to The Broke Diaries in the way of I am going for a similar feel. The laugh at my sucky life vibe.
I wrote 7 pages today. Hopefully that means my fears are not going to come true about me becoming stuck because I wrote the end of the novel already.

Category?

I have some concerns about what category my novel might fit in. I am calling it Chick lit. But honestly I have never read a novel like what I am writing. The closest thing I have read to it would be The Broke Diaries, which I LOVED LOVED LOVED. Is that considered Chick lit?
Why I don't know if Pisces Rising is Chick lit:
1. Not set in London or New York. My character works in Chicago but lives in a nearby town.
2. She isn't into fashion.
3. She does not have a good job or exciting life. Her job sucks and her boyfriend is a loser. That is the point of the novel to get her into a better life.
The book is not straight romance because the romantic elements don't start until near the end of the book.
I was trying to write a Harlequin Intrigue novel because I do read them, enjoy them and had some ideas that I thought might work in that type of book. Also I liked that I could get a general idea of what the publisher expected by reading them and could submit unangented. Now that I am trying to write a single title novel I feel like I have no idea where I should try send it when it is done.
I am thinking it might fit the Red Dress Ink line but I have my doubts.

Last scene

I have written the end of Pisces Rising but the novel is not done. I have about a third of it done. I had a idea for a scene I wanted to do so I wrote it and that lead me to the last scene in the book. Now I am nervous because I know the ending and most of the twists, turns and secrets have been reveled to me. So now I fear I will lose interest in the story. God, I hope not.

Song Lyrics of the day-
When we all walk hand in hand,
When the last child
cries for a crust of bread,
When the last man dies
for just words that he said,
When there's shelter over
the poorest head,
Then we shall be free !
When the last thing we notice
is the color of skin,
And the first thing we look for
is the beauty within,
When the skies and the oceans
are clean again ,
Then we shall be free !

Another good report

Things are still going wonderful with the writing of Pisces Rising. I started it around June 24th because of a challenge with the yahoo group I joined, newwriterschat, pledging to write a certain amount of pages by July 4th. I have now written 77 pages. That's quick progress for me. Being in this writing groove takes the edge of daily life, inside of myself I feel like I am on more of on a even keel, like I am doing what I am meant to do. Since I was ten I have known I am a writer yet I turn away from it for years at a time. I never feel better than when I am writing so I hope this good run continues.

Backup Title

Well I finally came up with a back up title for Pisces Rising, it is Gemini on the Rise. I don't like it as much but it might do. Anyway, I am still thrilled with PR and the progress I am making on it. I have never had so much fun on a project or written this quickly. If my writing was always at this level I would not be the grumpy grouch I can sometimes be because I would be floating through life on a writing high.

What I am reading- THE YADDA YADDA PRAYER GROUP GETS DOWN

from
http://www.cafeastrology.com/risingsignsascendant.html
Pisces rising people walk around with their heads in the clouds, and even when you do have their attention, their dreaminess is almost always apparent.
These people look for a stable partnership--one that is reliable. Pisces rising people gravitate to partners who keep them on their toes, and they often will pass off the little details and reality checks to their significant other. They seem to need a practical, realistic partner.

A little each day

Well I am finally writing a little each day. I am not forcing myself to write at a certain time but I am finding that I feel like adding a little each day. I pray this keeps up. I am writing in a notebook since my computer is not working very well right now. Maybe that is helping me to concentrate. No internet to flip over to instead of working on my story. I have some concerns about the tone of this nove. I am not pulling punches. It is filled with cuss words and jokes I find funny but others may take as a touchy subject. I feel like I neeed to be as raw with this story as it comes to me and not tone it down for a audience that does not exist and a publisher that is unknown.

Going great

I am still chugging along on Pisces Rising. So far I am loving working on it. I am finding it to be the easiest book I have ever tried writing. The Heroine's life is falling apart as she loses her job, boyfriend and home- all of which wasn't so great to start off with. Then once she hits bottom she must find a way to make a better life for herself. I am about 1/10th of a way done so far. That is the thing that freaks me out. The enormity of the task of writing a book. I have yet to finish one. Will PR be the book I take to the finish line?

yay! I successfully added another link. It took me about ten minutes to figure it out but I got it over there in the right spot.

Loving the 1st Person POV

This week I wrote 17 pages on Pisces Rising. I had a lot of fun with those pages. I LOL at what I was writing but who knows if it will read funny to someone else. I am hoping I have found the genre that clicks with my voice. Anyone else start out trying to write one genre and end up finding success in another?
