Still Undecided

I have the weekend to settle on a story idea if I am going to do NaNoWriMo. I am leaning away from working on Bridesmaids. That idea just does not inspire me right now. One idea I came up with was a novel divided into sections and each one being the life of the same woman on the same date in history but with alternate versions of her life based on a choice she made one fateful day in her past. I was liking the idea. In one version she would be a drug addict and in one a lawyer, or a wife of a pologymus or a criminal or even in prison. While I was congratulating myself on my clever idea I realized it was the same premise of the Gwyneth Paltrow movie Sliding Doors. Not that I could not write a novel based on the same idea but I don't know if I would want to. I am leaning more towards a multiple first person narrative story. Where I would have several charcters and each chapter would be first person in thier own voice. I have read several books like that and have loved them.

What I am Reading- A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby

Lyrics of the day

Time, why you punish me?
Like a wave crashing into the shore
You wash away my dreams
Time, why you walk away?
oh, oh Like a friend with somewhere to go
You left me crying
And you'll teach me about tomorrow
And all the pain and sorrow
running free?
'Cause tomorrow's just another day
And I don't believe in time

What to write about?

I am still mulling over what to write about if I do the NaNoWriMo challenge. Ideas are floating through my brain which is a good sign since I have been writer's brain numb for months now. But no idea sticks out as exceptional. For this challenge I am thinking of it as quantity over quality. I can get stuck on a story not shaping up as I expect and then stall. With this challenge I need to just write whatever comes to mind and not stress over it being up top the standards of being something that could be published.

NaNoWriMo

One of my goals for this year was to participate in NaNoWriMo, a challenge to write 50,000 words in November. I have never written even half that amount in 30 days. The rules, as I understand them, are that you work on something new. Something that you haven't started before November 1st. So Come Back to Me, Jackson's story and Pisces rising are all out. I could work on the Bridesmaid story though since I haven't started it, only played around with some ideas about what I would want to include in it.
So this blog may get back to some " I wrote this many words today." type posts next month.
Anyone else planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year?

Get me a pair of those shoes

Here are more blogs from aspiring and published authors
http://www.authorsblogs.com/

I went to see the movie In Her Shoes last weekend. ( By the way, I loved it! Fab! )
It is based on a book by Jennifer Weiner. I thought the name sounded fimiliar but I knew I haven't read any of her novels. It turns out while searching the Net for info on writing I read about her book Good In Bed. It is being made into a show for HBO. I need to see if my library carries copies of her books because I have been missing out not reading her before now.

Lyrics of the day

She,
who always seems so happy in a crowd
Whose eyes can be so private
and so proud
No one's allowed to see them
when they cry
She maybe the love
that cannot hope to last
May come to me from shadows
in the past
That I remember
'till the day I die

Writing Begets Writing

I wrote Writing Begets Writing on the inside cover of a notebook I was using over 10 years ago. I didn't learn that lesson though. I am stil struggling to get in and stay in a everyday writing groove. I miss the thrill of daily writing accomplishments.

What I am reading- Hand Me Down a red dress ink novel by Lee Nichols

Song of the Day

All your life is such a shame
All your love is just a dream
I dreamt I saw you walking up a hillside in the snow
Casting shadows on the winter sky
as you stood thereCounting crows
One for sorrow
two for joy
Three for girls
and four for boys
Five for silver
six for gold and
Seven for a secret never to be told
There’s a bird that nests inside you
Sleeping underneath your skin
When you open up your wings to speak
I wish you’d let me in
All your life is such a shame, shame, shame
All your love is just a dream, dream dream

Industry News

Check out this post at The Knight Agency site.
Looks like Harlequin bought out BET books.
This could be good news, imo, for getting a wider audience for the BET books.

What I am Reading- Killshot by Elmore Leonard

Also you may have noticed I deleted some comments left after posts. That is because they all refer to a web hosting website and not to writing. Ialso think they come from some kind of automated program because they appear one minute or less after I post and have a link to a business site.

Books per year

One of my writing goals for this year was to finish my first novel. I have been writing in spurts for years but I want to settle into a schedule and be consistent. But since I have stalled in Pisces Rising I am not sure if I will meet my goal. I am currently reading Mike and Mike and Me by Wendy Markam and in her bio it says she has written over 50 books. I could not imagine having that many books written. I am struggling to get through just one. But not for a moment do I think that means I am not meant to be a writer.

The last book I read- The Interruption of Everything by Terry Mcmillian.
